“Anything one man can imagine, other men can make real”

This quote by Jules Verne was engraved at the entrance of my High School, on a giant marble pillar in the middle of the building.
Every day, going to school, I was reading it. There were times when I even felt pissed off just by looking at it, because reading that meant 8 hours of stressful lessons coming up.
I never really appreciated what he meant with this quote until today.
I was 14 at the time, the good old Amiga days… I was much more addicted to videogames back then than I am today, and there was this fantastic, revolutionary game that came out called “Hunter“.
Hunter was the very first “sandbox-style” game, a game with a fixed storyline but where you could literally do what you want, explore, do missions, or just walk around in an open world scenario. This was still in the very early stages, you could explore a few islands, get on cars / boats / etc but in a limited way.
I remember clearly, at the time, imagining that kind of adventure in an extremely realistic and huge world, where you could have an immersive complete virtual life experience, and I was thinking: “I wonder if one day we will get that. It would be the perfect game.”
Well, that day is today.
Grand Theft Auto 4, just released by Rockstar games, is the game I was imagining when I was 14, and it took 16 years of advancements in Technology to get to this point, but it did happen.
Jules Verne was right.

Thank you, Capcom

I am not going to waste time on useless explanations, by watching the following video you will either:

a) Don’t give a damn, and not understand why I am so excited for a bunch of cartoon characters beating each other up without any apparent reason
b) Cry, and find a whole new reason for your existence

Thank you, Capcom.
