Farewell, GeoCities

The above image may not mean anything to many people, but for some of us, knowing that GeoCities will be closed down by the end of the year brings a tear to the eye.
I remember discovering GeoCities in 1996, while searching on Altavista (no Google yet!) for a free place to host internet webpages.
I had my “site” up later that night, a huge “Work in Progress” animated gif on a blank background, with “Fulvio’s Website” written on top of it.
I don’t even remember what happened to that page, maybe it is still there somewhere, saved on some dusty hard drive on their storage servers. Who knows.
Farewell, GeoCities, you will be missed.
Olè!
I am not an one of those animal rights – vegetarian guys.
I eat meat, and I am perfectly fine with that. We are part of nature’s food chain, after all.
But I do not really understand the meaning of the Corrida, and when things like this happen (San Isidro this time, picture on the left) I can’t but feel happy. Yes, I cheer for the bull.
I cheer for the bull because the Corrida is not a fair fight.
I don’t respect the toreros as I wouldn’t respect someone getting in a boxing match against a drunken boxer.
Mr. torero, you want to prove you got balls? Very well, get in the arena, and take your sword. But you will fight ALONE, against a well fed bull, at the top of his health and with steel blades mounted on both of his horns. There won’t be safe spots to run and hide when you feel you are in danger, like you always do in modern day Corridas. And if you win the bull in this scenario, you get my respect. And you know what? I might even cheer for you during the show.
But fighting against a previously beaten up creature that has zero to little chances of making it?
You, sir, are just a pussy. And I hope you will get many scars during your shameful “bullfighter” career.
Mr Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, you *will* rot in hell.

In 2007, Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, an “artist”, took a dog from the streets, tied the poor animal to a short rope connected to a wall and left him to die slowly of thirst and starvation.
In his twisted, sick mind, this was “art”.
Everyone visiting the art gallery was witness of this terrible, useless act of violence.
The artist murderer is now planning to repeat the show this year, with another dog.
Mr Guillermo, just pray that we won’t cross paths, ever.
Because if we do, what you did to this poor animal will be like a trip to Disneyland compared to what I will do to you.
Have a good day.
Prypiat, 22 years later
I was playing the amazing game Call of Duty 4 today, when I reached a mission taking place in the abandoned city of Prypiat, Ukraine.
I have an unusual attraction for abandoned places: when I see one I cant help myself trying to imagine who were the people that once lived there, what happened to them, and if they ever came back to see what was left of their home.
In the case of Prypiat, this was unfortunately not possible, because the city was evacuated and marked as off-limits area following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.
The people living there (about 50.000) were only allowed to take a suitcase with them, and had to leave most things behind.
This video shows how the city is today … it is an extremely emotional footage, and if it wasn’t for the radiation still present in the area, I’d love to visit the place someday.
