Olè!

toreroI am not an one of those animal rights - vegetarian guys.
I eat meat, and I am perfectly fine with that. We are part of nature’s food chain, after all.
But I do not really understand the meaning of the Corrida, and when things like this happen (San Isidro this time, picture on the left) I can’t but feel happy. Yes, I cheer for the bull.
I cheer for the bull because the Corrida is not a fair fight.
I don’t respect the toreros as I wouldn’t respect someone getting in a boxing match against a drunken boxer.
Mr. torero, you want to prove you got balls? Very well, get in the arena, and take your sword. But you will fight ALONE, against a well fed bull, at the top of his health and with steel blades mounted on both of his horns. There won’t be safe spots to run and hide when you feel you are in danger, like you always do in modern day Corridas. And if you win the bull in this scenario, you get my respect. And you know what? I might even cheer for you during the show.
But fighting against a previously beaten up creature that has zero to little chances of making it?
You, sir, are just a pussy. And I hope you will get many scars during your shameful “bullfighter” career.

Back from New York City

Statue of Liberty

Oh well, I was bound to come back to the boring daily Italian routine at some point wasn’t I?
To sum it up, both Diana and myself had a really wonderful time in New York.
The city itself did not leave much inside me when I left, but I guess I am not a big fan of huge metropolises, the only big city I really love is London (and of course Rome), but that could just be because I have lots of good memories from there.
One thing I will say for sure: American people rock.
Every single person I have met since I landed in the States has been great.
They are cheerful, helpful, extremely friendly and always up for a laugh.
I don’t know why in Europe there are all these rumors of Americans being bad, but from my personal experience I can say that this is bullshit.
Yay for Americans, you guys rule.
So, what did we visit in the Big Apple? Here is a list:

Staten Island - The Statue of Liberty
Looking at the French lady watching over the NYC harbor feels great.
It is indeed a symbol of hope and freedom.

The Museum of Natural History
We watched an imax documentary about dinosaurs, visited the planetarium and went trough the various exhibitions.
The dinosaur documentary was total crap. You see better documentaries in the Discovery Channel every day. The Planetarium was ok, and so were the exhibitions, although I have to say that I like the London Museum of Natural History a lot more.
Fun quote:
Lady at the planetarium speaker: We want to remind our customers that all seats in the Planetarium are equal and offer the same view.
Diana: QUICK!!! Let’s go get the best seats!!!  :D

Diana at the Metropolitan MuseumThe Metropolitan Museum of Art
Amazing Galleries. Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt, it was really a shower of masterpieces … until we got to the modern art galleries.
Now, look at the picture on the left (with poor Diana disgusted in disbelief) and tell me, how the hell can someone possibly consider that ART?
At least we had a good laugh at the guide lady explaining to the poor uneducated mass (us) the deep meaning of a Pollock painting “Autumn Rhythm”, which I personally decided to call “Vomit on Canvas” instead.

The Empire State Building
Since 2001, being on top of the Empire State building means once again being on top of all New York City.
The view is indeed amazing (and Diana even met two Russian rock singers up there!), but I wonder how good the view could have been if some f*#$%*g terrorist didn’t decide to take down the Twin Towers.
I guess I will never know.

Central Park
The green heart of the city.
Lots of squirrels, artificial ponds, birds, etc.
A breath of fresh air before jumping back in the Subway.

Times Square
Meh. Lots of lights and advertisements and people bumping on each other like a giant pinball.
Definitely not my place.

Macy’s - Manhattan
The “world’s largest store”.
Totally untrue. Harrods in London is much bigger and doesn’t sell clothes only.
Time to change your slogan, guys.

The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Club
This is a horror themed restaurant where we had our last dinner before leaving the city the following day.
It is huge (4 floors), fun (with mini-shows as well!) and the food was not bad at all.
Only drawback is the price, we ended up paying 105 dollars for just the two of us.
Ouch.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull premiere
How could I miss the Indy premiere?
We loved the movie, even though I think it didn’t quite live up to the hype, it is still Indy.
Poor Diana wanted to go see the Sex and the City movie as well but opening night was the day we had to leave.
I am so so so sorry we missed that. (NOT) :P

Mini Road Trip to Easthampton - Boston
We rented a car and drove to
Easthampton and Boston to visit Diana’s friends that live there.
Great people, and very fun travel :)

Well, this is all I guess.
I’ll upload some pictures soon in the galleries, time to sleep now! (it’s 7am … Jetlag ftw)

Why is Erich Priebke still around?

Erich PriebkeWhy is this man still around?
I had almost forgot about him. Almost.
But now I am reading on Repubblica.it that he has been asked to partecipate at a “beauty contest” as a member of the jury? Are we serious?
I don’t care that he is 95.
There is no forgiving. There is no peace.
There is no “forget the past and move on”.
This man is a mass murderer, a ruthless assassin, a NAZI.
This man led the killing of 335 innocent civilians, one after another.
He even shot two himself, just for the sake of it.
Every day I am working my ass off and I am contributing to the taxes that will also pay the rent of his apartment in Rome where he is held “prisoner” because he is “too old to be kept in a standard prison”. Oh really? Poor boy. Let’s give him cake every day as well then, shall we?
Erich, I really hope to not see your face ever again, on the web,  news, newspapers, anywhere.
I am reaching my limit.

Note:
I thought it would be useful for the internet community to report the address of this NAZI, so that you can write him your letters of “encouragement” and “support”
Here goes:

Born in the USA (not really, but I’m going there anyway)

I’ll be in New York city next tuesday, coming back on the 23rd of May, to spend 10 days with my girlfriend which has been working with the Irish Classical Theatre Company in Buffalo.

I didnt have a proper holiday in ages so i am really looking forward to it :)

P.S.
If you want me to buy you stuff from America by exploiting the imba zumba financial power of our Euro (ha ha) let me know on MSN.

Happy birthday, iMac
