Prypiat, 22 years later
I was playing the amazing game Call of Duty 4 today, when I reached a mission taking place in the abandoned city of Prypiat, Ukraine.
I have an unusual attraction for abandoned places: when I see one I cant help myself trying to imagine who were the people that once lived there, what happened to them, and if they ever came back to see what was left of their home.
In the case of Prypiat, this was unfortunately not possible, because the city was evacuated and marked as off-limits area following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.
The people living there (about 50.000) were only allowed to take a suitcase with them, and had to leave most things behind.
This video shows how the city is today … it is an extremely emotional footage, and if it wasn’t for the radiation still present in the area, I’d love to visit the place someday.
uhm…
I think you have to wait about ten thousand years…
