Mario Lozano cleared of all charges
Mario Lozano, the New York City National Guardsman who accidentally shot and killed Nicola Calipari while he was trying to protect Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena (after rescuing her from being held hostage by terrorists), was yesterday cleared of all charges.
Giuliana’s comment was: ‘The arrogance of the United States has won. They didn’t want the trial. The decision of the Assizes Court is inconceivable and incredible. Italy has given up its sovereignty. Calipari was celebrated as a hero when he returned to Italy in a coffin.’
My comment is: Miss Sgrena, you should just shut up. If there is a murderer in all this, it is you. You went into a warzone, with no bodyguards, and caused an international incident of huge proportions. If you have a little bit of sanity left in your brain, please go pray and ask God for forgiveness for all the problems you caused to your own nation, for a hero that died, for a soldier that will have to bring the burden of killing an innocent man just because of your innate stupidity.
Thank you.

Comments on the first comments:
“…because of your (Sgrena) innate stupidity.” Hmmm, yeah, uh-huh. And I suppose, in your mind, Lozano is a genius. Have you listen to Lazano speak? Here we have a NYer, who supposedly should have a citizen’s command of the English language, but who, in reality, can barely string three non-mushed-mouthed words together!
“…Miss Sgrena, you should just shut the f**k up. If there is a murderer in all this, it is you…” Wow!…hmm, where to start? I will try to explain, and pardon my vulgarity, but; WAKE UP! She is a J-O-U-R-N-A-L-I-S-T! She was just doing her job! Which would involve reporting on the war! Ya know..Free press? …with the intent of informing people! Courageously going into a dangerous place, armed with only pen and paper, intending to get the perspective of refugees (PEOPLE!) caught in an illegal occupation. Commentator…did the thought ever occur to you concerning the possibility that Mr. Mario (either through response to an order, or caught in panic, or, who knows) may actually have been wrong to fire round after round of live amo through the glass of a car that he and the rest of the “check-point” post had been informed about its arrival, hmm? Look. It is difficult to discuss a subject with someone who is so oblivious to factual data and is seemingly content with being as ill-informed as possible. I suggest you read!…and READ OFTEN! It will only improve (or change for the better) your mean-spirited, platitude-ridden, world view/perspective.

…oh, and by the way. He wasn’t “cleared of all charges.” This is complete misinformation. This wasn’t a trial. He wasn’t absolved. You can tell by his reaction that even he fails to understand this (it’s sad, really). No. It was an appeal FOR a trial. The Italian court hearing the appeal decided that Italy had no jurisdiction to put Lozano on trial. And this decision is based on a letter, a Colin Powell letter, that’s attached to a UN resolution. But it is a unilateral letter that was not accepted by other governments. So, also the prosecutors and lawyers found that this is not a base to avoid sovereignty on the Calipari case.
Giuliana Sgrena (and Calipari’s spouse, as well), along with their legal council, are not satisfied. They are appealing the case to a higher court…the Supreme Court, or “Corte Suprema di Cassazione,” in Italian.
PLEASE. Do the right thing. Correctlly inform your readers.
Here…Just one link to the real story (one of many…don’t take my word for it)

I will correct this to: she was doing her job, without caring about getting any kind of bodyguard protection, and moreover complying with terrorists requests by begging in front of video cameras for the Italian government to listen to their requests. Journalists reporting on war zones have to follow RULES. If she was traveling with an escort, and they were ambushed with her escort killed, I would have understood her. You travel alone, hungry to get a scoop that will give you popularity? … hey, you are on your own.
Harald Doornbos, a Dutch reporter, told Sgrena to be careful of kidnappers, to which she responded “That won’t happen. We are siding with the oppressed Iraqi people. No Iraqi would kidnap us”.
Yep, sure.
