iMac 24″

Imac

Well, I have finally decided to go for it and, after selling my dear G5, on Sunday I headed for the Apple Store and this baby is finally mine :)
I obviously got the 24-inch model due to the problems affecting all 20-inch screens that I have mentioned in the previous post. (I even decided to show the issue to the Apple assistant in the shop to see what he had to say about it but all he could tell me was: “Shit .. you are right!” — go figure).
Anyway, first impression is *extremely* positive: boot time is under 15 seconds (no kidding) the LCD is absolutely stunning and overall speed is extremely good.
I have even set up a Windows Vista partition bootable in either native mode or trough VMware just in case, performance was really good in both cases. Only drawback is the video card, that under performs a little when used with Anti aliasing (frame rates are literally cut in half even with a basic 2xAA) but I am sure this is just a driver issue that will be addressed soon with an update.
Yay for Apple once again :)

Just my luck

Just as I decide to sell my glorious PowerMac G5 to get myself a brand new iMac 20″, I find out that all of the 20 inch models come with terrible LCD screens, much worse than even the ones that came with the previous generation iMacs.

The 24″ is not affected by this problem, but 1) I cant afford it and 2) it doesn’t fit on my desk.

Nice Youtube video explaining what i am talking about:

Looks like I will have to wait for a second revision (and hope Apple will care enough to get this issue fixed)…

Sigh.
